Repeated checking
Checking doors, appliances, messages, or previous actions may take far longer than you intend.
PERSONALIZED PSYCHIATRIC CARE
An unwanted thought can turn into hours of checking, reviewing, or seeking reassurance. When the same cycle keeps interrupting your day, it can be difficult to explain what is happening, especially if the thoughts feel embarrassing or unlike you.
Raha Behavioral Health offers a respectful place to discuss these concerns and explore an appropriate care plan. Contact our Houston team to ask about an OCD-focused evaluation and provider availability.

OCD involves recurring, unwanted thoughts or urges and repetitive behaviors or mental rituals. It is more than enjoying order or being careful. An evaluation considers the distress, time involved, and impact on daily life, rather than relying on a stereotype about cleanliness.
Checking doors, appliances, messages, or previous actions may take far longer than you intend.
Disturbing thoughts may recur even when they conflict with your values and intentions.
Replaying events, repeating phrases, or asking for certainty may bring only brief relief.
You may change routines to avoid triggers, making work, school, or relationships harder to navigate.
Describe the situations, thoughts, rituals, and avoidance patterns you notice. You can share at a pace that allows an honest discussion.
Your provider reviews your mental health history, previous care, and other symptoms that may affect the assessment.
The discussion includes treatment preferences, prior experiences, and whether a clinician with specialist OCD therapy training is needed.
Exposure and response prevention, a form of CBT, is an established OCD treatment. Ask our team about access to an appropriately trained clinician or a referral.
Psychiatric medication may be considered following evaluation. Your provider explains available options and monitoring rather than assuming a prescription is the right starting point.
Follow-up can focus on how treatment is affecting the routines that matter to you. Bring questions about changes, concerns, and coordination with your therapist.

Unwanted intrusive thoughts are not the same as intentions. A clinician will ask about the thoughts and your experience of them as part of an individualized assessment.
No. OCD is assessed through obsessions, compulsions, distress, and interference with daily life. A preference for neatness alone does not establish a diagnosis.
Ask the team about current clinician training and availability. If specialist ERP is needed, your provider can discuss referral and care coordination options.
